Eagles Prey On Huskies

Apple Valley is the state’s best team (Minnesota), and now it can be considered among the nation’s elite after taking down DigitalSports’ 10th ranked Blue Valley Northwest (KS) on Saturday afternoon in the 18th annual TimberWolves Shootout at Target Center.

Blue Valley Northwest of Overland Park (KS) entered the match-up ranked No. 10 in the nation on the DigitalSports National Boys’ Basketball Rankings. Apple Valley showed up to this match-up having lost to then Ranked No. 32nd Whitney Young (IL) 80-70.

Once the ball was tipped off, both teams fought tooth and nail in a competitive first half.  When the teams headed to the locker room the BVNW Huskies held a 4pt lead over the Eagles at 34-30.

Early into the second half the Huskies saw themselves up 9pts with a little over 11 minutes on the clock.

The tone of the rest of the game was set by Tyus Jones (26pts.) the Eagles point guard and Duke University signee.  The Eagles were able to make some adjustments and pulled back ahead 9:43 left in the game after Jones sake two free throws to put them up 53-52.

Just moments later fellow teammate Robert Tobroxen led a fast break having hit Jones with a pass for a 3-on-1.  Jones took the game over and drove hard to the basket with a dunk that should have made sports centers’ top 10.

Jones led the team in a 19-0 run that held Blue Valley Northwest scoreless for over 8 minutes, Eagles now up 67-52.

Tyus Jones (AV)- 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Gary Trent Jr. (AV)-17 points.
